Heard Becker speak twice, went to a one day seminar and found him to be the most honest, open, giving instructor. The interviewer keeps going back to the jealousy from other photographers. Why? They are the vocal minority.

I have been a professional photographer since the late 70’s, shooting weddings since then too. The digital revolution found many people jumping on the photo band wagon and challenging the “Big name” photographers. Why? Many of these newbies made money without working at all phases of their business. And, many are out of the industry.

Becker has photography T A L E N T! And lots of business talent. Combine these with his magnetic personality and you have a successful person. If you follow his advice, you will grow your business.

Hey Tim – thanks for the comment,

I’m sure that more people like Becker than not. However, the reason that I felt that the jealousy topic needed to be addressed was that I got hate messages from people for even having Becker on the podcast. People said they lost respect for me for even having him on the show. Which I think is completely ridiculous, but the volume of negative comments I received made it impossible for me to ignore the topic.

I don’t think that there is any reason to be negative, and I thought Becker was very upfront about his attitude and how it had evolved as he had grown in business – a comment that I think anyone who achieves some amount of longevity in the industry will resonate with.

I also ask the questions that I personally want to hear the answers to. I’m curious how people relate to the “celebrity” aspect of the industry and the impact that has. We have a policy of being as candid as possible on the show, and I think Becker did a great job of speaking to the issues. Some people get put on a pedestal in our industry, and the same folks that put them there seem to take great glee in knocking them off and replacing them with someone else. I guess I wanted to examine that phenomenon from the inside.

  2. Awesome podcast. Becker is a solid guy – always been open and willing to share. Whether you like him and his work or not, you gotta admit he knows how to get the business right. He’s doing what he loves, and is obviously making a great living. What’s so wrong with that? To all the haters out there, stop wasting energy on trashing those who are successful and figure out how to get your own business up to snuff.
